OREI EARC-102 vs OREI EARC-201: Which One Should You Buy?

The OREI EARC-102 and EARC-201 solve opposite home-theater routing problems. The EARC-102 lets two TVs share one ARC/eARC soundbar or receiver, with a front-panel button for choosing the active TV. The EARC-201 sends one TV’s ARC/eARC audio to two soundbars, receivers or audio systems simultaneously. Both are audio-only devices that support formats including Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS:X through compatible eARC equipment. There is no overall winner: choose the EARC-102 for multiple displays or the EARC-201 for multiple audio systems.

FeatureEARC-102EARC-201What it means
Primary use case Two TVs sharing one soundbar or AVR One TV feeding two soundbars, AVRs or audio systems The models solve opposite routing problems.
TV-side ARC/eARC connections 2 1 It is designed to accept returned audio from two displays.
Audio-system ARC/eARC connections 1 2 It can feed two connected audio systems simultaneously.
Routing behavior Selects one TV through automatic or manual switching Distributes one TV signal to as many as two outputs The preferred behavior depends on whether the setup has multiple displays or multiple audio systems.
Manual selection Front-panel TV selector No manual output selector documented Its physical button provides direct control over which television is heard.
Simultaneous audio outputs 1 2 Both audio-system outputs can operate at the same time.
Dual-device audio negotiation Only the selected television supplies audio Two systems receive a mutually supported audio format The EARC-201 supports simultaneous output but may be limited by the less capable connected system.
Dolby Atmos and Dolby TrueHD Supported with compatible eARC equipment Supported with compatible eARC equipment Both pass these formats when the complete connection chain supports eARC.
DTS:X and DTS-HD Master Audio Supported with compatible eARC equipment Supported with compatible eARC equipment Both pass these formats when the complete connection chain supports eARC.
Standard ARC limitation Cannot carry the complete set of documented lossless eARC formats Limited to PCM 2.0 or compressed Dolby/DTS 5.1 Both require eARC for their full high-bitrate audio capabilities.
CEC control Volume and power pass-through described, but official specifications conflict CEC volume control documented Its CEC volume-control support is documented more consistently, although actual remote behavior still depends on connected equipment.
Video passthrough No No Both are audio-only ARC/eARC devices.
Maximum power consumption 0.45 W 1.06 W It has the lower documented maximum power draw.
Included power solution USB cable documented; wall adapter inclusion is inconsistent 5V/1A power adapter included It includes a documented external power adapter.
OREI

1x2 eARC HDMI Audio Switch

A compact audio-only switch that lets two televisions share one ARC/eARC sound system, with automatic and front-panel manual input selection.

Key technology

Auto and Manual SwitchingSelects which of two connected ARC/eARC TVs supplies audio to the shared soundbar or AVR. The front-panel Select button changes inputs and enables or disables automatic switching.
CEC Pass-ThroughThe user manual says CEC commands can pass through for volume and power control, although an OREI specification sheet contradictorily lists the CEC function as unavailable.

Buyer advantages

  • Two purpose-built solutions for uncommon ARC/eARC routing configurations
  • Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS:X support through compatible eARC equipment
  • Compact metal enclosures
  • EARC-102 provides manual and automatic TV-input selection
  • EARC-201 can operate two audio outputs simultaneously

Things to consider

  • Neither adapter passes video
  • Lossless formats require eARC support across the connected system
  • CEC and remote-control behavior can vary by configuration
  • EARC-201 uses a mutually supported audio format when two different systems are connected
  • The two products are not interchangeable because their routing directions are opposite

OREI

1-In-2-Out eARC HDMI Audio Splitter

An audio-only splitter that sends one television’s ARC/eARC return signal to two soundbars, receivers or compatible audio systems simultaneously.

Key technology

CEC Volume ControlPasses compatible HDMI-CEC volume commands from the TV so connected sound systems can be adjusted with the TV remote.
Common Audio Format SelectionWhen two audio systems are connected, the splitter selects an audio format supported by both. OREI's manual describes this as the lowest common supported format.

Buyer advantages

  • Feeds two ARC/eARC soundbars, receivers or audio systems from one television simultaneously
  • Useful for dual-system and multi-room audio configurations
  • Supports Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS:X and DSD through compatible eARC equipment
  • CEC is designed to preserve compatible TV-remote volume control
  • Front indicators show power, TV handshake and individual output status
  • Includes a 5V/1A external power adapter
  • Compact metal enclosure has side ventilation

Things to consider

  • Both outputs are constrained to an audio format supported by both connected systems, which can reduce format capability when the devices differ
  • No documented manual selector is provided for enabling just one of the two outputs
  • TV-remote volume control adjusted only one soundbar in the demonstrated setup, although an Apple TV remote controlled both
  • Audio-only design cannot split or pass an HDMI video signal
  • Standard ARC is limited to PCM stereo or compressed Dolby/DTS 5.1
  • Practical cable limits may vary because official cable-length guidance is inconsistent

Which one should you buy?

The OREI EARC-102 is the practical choice for a room with two displays and one soundbar or receiver. Its manual selector makes it easy to move audio between televisions, which is useful for sports setups or a TV-and-projector installation. Its tradeoffs are that only one TV can be heard at a time, cables connect on more than one side of the compact enclosure, and official CEC information is inconsistent. The EARC-201 is designed for the reverse arrangement: one TV feeding two soundbars, receivers or other ARC/eARC audio systems simultaneously. It is the better fit for dual-system or multi-room audio, but the two connected systems must share a compatible audio format, and remote-volume behavior can vary. Neither adapter is a video switch or splitter, so shoppers needing video distribution should look elsewhere.
