OXS Thunder Duo X Review: Chair-Mounted 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos Gaming Audio
The OXS Thunder Duo X is a 5.1.2-channel desktop gaming speaker system built around two front cabinets, dedicated upward-firing height drivers and a wireless neck speaker that places two rear channels directly behind the listener. Tech Steve found the system immersive during gaming and especially impressive for its strong bass response. It supports HDMI eARC, one HDMI input with documented 4K/120Hz passthrough, USB-C, optical audio and Bluetooth 5.3. The main tradeoffs are the absence of an included external subwoofer, the neck speaker’s charging requirement and Windows-only configuration software.

Video summary
Tech Steve unboxes the two main speaker cabinets, wireless neck speaker, remote, cables and rear-channel dongle before demonstrating the Windows setup and OXS control software. He shows the lighting, equalizer, channel-gain and sound-profile controls, then connects a PlayStation through the system’s HDMI path. On his setup, the console continued to report 120Hz, HDR and variable refresh rate support. During gaming, he found that placing the rear speaker against the chair created a convincing sense of sound around the listening position. His music demonstration also produced substantially more bass than he expected from the two main cabinets, leading him to conclude that many users may be satisfied without adding a separate subwoofer.
Tech Steve Takeaway
Buy the Thunder Duo X if you want powerful desktop sound and physical rear and height channels without installing speakers around the room. Its chair-mounted rear speaker is especially useful for a dedicated gaming position, but buyers who dislike charging accessories or need a conventional room-wide surround system should consider a more traditional speaker layout.
Sound quality
Tech Steve described the Thunder Duo X as robust, immersive and surprisingly powerful in the bass, stating that he did not feel an external subwoofer was necessary during his music demonstration. The physical rear channels brought effects closer to the listening position, while the upward-firing drivers supplied dedicated Dolby Atmos height channels. The system offers Game, Movie, Music and Studio profiles, plus a customizable mode. Buyers seeking deeper low-frequency extension can add the optional wireless Thunder Sub.
Connectivity and features
The OXS Audio app provides equalizer, channel-level, profile and RGB-lighting controls, with profiles saved to the speaker system. Official app support is limited to 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11. The included remote offers direct access to volume, bass, treble, Sky Channel level, sound profiles and lighting controls. Bluetooth 5.3 is available, but integrated streaming platforms and voice assistants are not documented.
Design and configuration
The Thunder Duo X is sold as one speaker-system configuration rather than in multiple sizes. Each main cabinet measures approximately 7.0 x 8.5 x 10.9 inches, while the neck speaker measures approximately 11.6 x 6.7 x 4.4 inches.

Tech Steve verdict
The OXS Thunder Duo X is best suited to a gamer with a dedicated chair who wants rear-surround and Dolby Atmos height effects without running speaker cables around the room. Its strongest advantages are the physical upward-firing drivers, chair-mounted rear channels, substantial bass from the ported main cabinets and flexible HDMI, USB-C, optical and Bluetooth connectivity. The optional Thunder Sub provides an upgrade path, but it is not included. The system is less suitable for shared seating because the rear speaker must stay close to one listener, and its battery and proprietary wireless dongle add maintenance. It is also a weaker fit for Mac-centered setups because the full configuration application is officially limited to Windows.
